All the systems that I mentioned (RDF, ILS, VOR, TACAN) are
FUNDAMENTALLY similar to the ZB as radio HOMING systems.  Homing
was specifically conjectured as "not being useful to navigation".

The ZB allowed significant advantage in determining how to get from
one point (the aircraft position) to another (the carrier).  That's
navigation.  Pure and simple.  One must then logically reject any
statement that the ZB was not "useful in navigation".

At least, that's my outlook as a former submarine navigator.
