Has anyone ever seen documentation on why many of the
nomen plates have the dates ground-off, and data
painted-over on the backs of the sets?
I've been told it was one of those hyterical "security"
over-reactions, where munging the plates was 
supposed to keep the bad guys in the dark about
our production figures (as though that would have made
any difference at all).
