In my respectful opinion- that the "28" on the nomen plate has been
abraided away and replaced by "12" means the wiring has indeed
been modified from its original configuration.
This is not a "bad thing," since it is likely to be an "official," mod,
meaning it was done by order of the services and not a "ham hack,"
and is thus "original" and important to document.
The Lorenz Landing System mods to BC-455s
are after-market as well, as were those to the 454s
used in the glide bombs, but are important and certainly not "hacks."

Late in the war, a lot of "second tier" powers entered the fray.
They had many 12-volt aircraft that needed "modern" equipment.
This change would have gotten some gear on the way
until A.R.C. could tool-up for 12 volt receivers.
That would fit with the late-war contracts for 12-volts.

I'm very interested in the local control drawer
with the yellow paint. Any chance of seeing a photo?
What does the stamping on the inside case of
that local control drawer say?
