That's an excellent hypothesis.  There would have had to be some sort
of generally-distributed order to use the old "Bristo" term, but likely
that has vanished into the mist of time.  But one is left to wonder
what difference it really would have made (legally) to have simply
used "Bristol".  Perhaps the Bristol Company itself objected to its
name being associated with devices that it did not manufacture.

It's surprising how often the Bristo vs. Bristol topic comes up.  If
the first is used as a generic term, it likely should be "bristo" (no
capital).
