I agree Mike.  In fact I wonder if the Bristol Wrench Company might not 
have been formed for the purpose of licensing and manufacturing the 
newly patented "Bristo" design wrench in 1913, as this was not an 
uncommon way for companies to get started.   They may have added the "L" 
to create a more common name, since "Bristo" was not then known as a brand.

In any event, the fact that they very quickly acquired the other 
licensee and have been manufacturing them ever since says a lot about 
the durability of the Bristo design!
