I don't have easy access to my A.R.C. Type 12 manuals right now, but
Michael Tauson's vintage command set information at:

has a description and a couple of references to the C-56.  It states:

"1 Rec. 4 Trans    C-56      Dial for R-19, 3 Type 12 Trans, 1 Extern
                             Trans, Whistle-stop, New Panel Mount"

Anyone with an A.R.C. Type 12 manual should be able to provide more
information and a schematic.
