I should have told you that to reach the file I mentioned, from the "home" 
page, click on 14) PDFs of Military...etc., then "The ARC-5 Pages", then "The 
ARC-5 Receiver Mixer-Mod", which is a PDF of a report written in 1972 by a 
fellow named Jim Enze who worked for an old boss of mine in Missoula, 
Montana.

This mod is a completely reversible mod that very substantially reduces the 
noise generated internally by that danged super-noisy 12K8 mixer/oscillator.
