Ah.....but think of the convenience of having your own VOR. Now you can land that 172 in your backyard with full flaps and (most likely!) a burned out set of brakes! HI!

I remember as a kid owning a "Gibson Girl" lifeboat xmtr on 500 Khz. I was very severly warned "Don't crank that handle unless you want "the PBY's flying over the house. Hi! Bought it brand new for $10.00 and that included the 300 ft. of wire and a parachute!!!! Not too useful in peacetime! Do they still monitor 500 Khz at sea?
