Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I don't rent storage anymore.
$320 a month for 20 years is $76,800!!!
I stored a bunch of stuff once. The intention was "For a little
while" which tuned into two years (yeah, I know... not that long)
then 4 years, but then I calculated the storage costs and decided the
stuff I was storing wasn't worth it. At the end of that time I asked
myself "would I pay what I've I've spent in storage these last two
years for this stuff right now, today?"
Then the problem was solved for me when someone broke into one of the
storage units and stole everything.
Never again. If I can't fit it into my home somewhere, I don't need
it that week, and if ever I "get around to it" I can always find some
radio that somebody else has paid the storage on for the last 20
years.
Not that I don't "collect", I collect plenty. I just don't pay to
store it somewhere that I can't even see it.
To each his own. There have been times when my house was so full of
"treasures" and "projects" that there was only a path between rooms.
Pretty soon you don't see it. I've been embarrassed to have visitors
who didn't share my "affliction". I don't keep THAT much stuff
anymore. I've been "thinning the herd" now for a couple of years,
much of it has gone right into the garbage can. Honestly, I don't
miss it.
And my poor wife! I really don't know how she's put up with me for
these 32 years.
