I have been testing inexpensive substitutes for the "audiophool" tubes
used in SCR-183. Triode-connected 6AQ5 or that jumped-up
version, 58summthin-summthin, seem to be the best so far,
and their sockets mount easily in 4-pin bases.
I've been thinking of tapping-off B+ at the cold end of the tank circuit and
running screen voltage to them through an approriate resistor to see
if I can get more "umph." I'm certain it will change the neutralization,
but I'll deal with that later. Any comments on this?
