My solution to the collection glut has probably been addressed, but coming
into the discussion late let me describe my solution to the problem of too
many toys and how I dealt with it upon retirement 6 years ago.

One of the conditions of retirement set down by the wife was I had to get
all and I mean all of the junk out of the garage, the spare bedroom, the
patio, and the the back yard storage shed and also find a way to get rid of
the two 10X30 storage units as well. It seemed like a bridge to far until I
looked into one of those combination shop and office suites. What a deal.
My first one had 1200 square feet total with an air conditioned office
area approximately 10 X 30 feet. After 5 years of retirement and and still
collecting junk I leased an adjacent shop/office which added a lot more
storage for not only my radio junk but a place to park the old Corvette and my
ski boat which has not seen water in many years.

The total cost for both units not including the modest utility fees is
1600 a month. Now that's a lot of money, but I've been selling off a lot
of the junk and excess over the years and those sales pretty much take care
of the lease fees even after I pay the taxes on the sales plus the ever
increasing fees to Ebay and Paypal. It also allows me to hire my 13 year old
grandkids at 7.50 an hour to come up and help grandpa keep the place
organized although that is mostly a loosing battle even with the yeoman help
from the kids.

But it sure has helped to keep peace in the household and a place for
me to go to keep out of the wife's way during the day. And I can take some
of my audio experiments out in the garage area and play them as loud as I
want. heh

    Food for thought
