A perhaps curious alternative to leaving it at the curb with a "free"
sign on it is a nationwide system called "freecycle"
(http://www.freecycle.org/ ). We have used it extensively for household
items and never failed to get multiple requests from e-mails sent
through their reflector for the surrounding counties. I'm not sure how
well it would work with "Free: BC-348 in good condition" but it might
be worth a try, especially if we talk it up in the ham radio community.
It's certainly better than the dumpster, if you can cull the trash
collectors who are not really looking for anything except scrap. The
key there is a good description - I put a link to my web page with
photos and a rundown on the item. (For those without a web page, it
costs me $6 a month for aafradio.org and includes scads of user-defined
email addresses you can use to reduce spam.) It's also good for stuff
from a loved one's home that is still serviceable.
