[ARC5] Kludge -

Regardless of what Wiki says, the term became popular with hams after and
advertising, I believe from CQ, showed up. I believe it was only advertised
once around the mid 50's. It showed a typical cluttered ham station with all
the wires going haphazardly all over the place, especially in the back of
the gear. This guy called Kludge, advertised an operating desk that would
neatly arrange everything. Since there was only one ad, it must not have
taken off. Regardless, after that, anything wired haphazardly, or thrown
together by hams was referred to as a kludge. Since I have all the CQ's
downstairs, I'll have to look through most of them, in the "Index of
Advertisers" to see if I can find it. I cannot believe none of the other OTs
on here remember that. - Mike

One man's inspiration is another man's kluge, especially in the area  
of restoration.

The term is generally used as a derogative but interesting to note  
Wikipedia includes "yet effective" in the definition.
