And...it's the famous original BC-224-A!
I have a BC-310 RDF with a 1937 order number. Will Donzelli told me years ago
that Fair Radio had some BC-311 remote control boxes, but when I poked through
their new warehouse in 2002, I couldn't find any.
I'd say that the SCR-242 was state of the art for 1937 aircraft RDF sets.

I don't think that's odd at all, since an O-47 observation aircraft was
likely *not* expected to be flying in a formation of other aircraft, where
a command radio would have most of its utility. The small SCR-238 liason
set should have filled most requirements for communications with ground
stations.
