The dollar hasn't dropped in value anywhere near that much.

According to the US BLS inflation calculator at

a 1975 dollar was worth about  4 2009 dollars, and
a 1945 dollar was worth about 12 2009 dollars, and
a 1940 dollar was worth about 15 2009 dollars, and
a 1913 dollar was worth about 22 2009 dollars.

I can certify from experience the validity of the 1975 number.

It's the eternal time-value of money problem.
