Black wrinkle paint was a long-standing Navy spec dating from the days 
of open-cockpit planes. As the SCR-274N was a Navy spec adopted by the 
Army, black wrinkle was used until WE really took over the bulk of the 
production. I think (not positive) that the SCR-183 units were always 
anodized or varnished aluminum. WE took other "shortcuts" such as 
plastic not machined aluminum IF caps, and others.
