A couple of times I have carefully drilled off the back flange of the rivet,
then popped it out.  When ready to re-attach,  I pushed the
rivet back home and daubed a dot of 5-min epoxy on the back
where I drilled off the little flang.  You could hold the rivet tight
with a deep "C" clamp gently applied and a piece of tape over the epoxy,
but I haven't had to do this so far.  It's worked for me.
