I've been trying for years.  
Too busy making a living and supporting a family.
As King wrote in "On Writing," about what one must
do to write seriously:

    "...you must a door and 
     you must be willing to shut the door..." 

meaning get rid of the distractions and focus
on the job.   When you hear "Daaaaa-Deeeee!"
every few minutes, your focus gets broken 
and it gets harder to find it after each time.
Often, just writing little snippets like the 
one on SCR-183 is like that.  I think there
are little devils in the world that save-up a bunch
of minor calimities just so they can spring them 
on you at such times ;-).
And do it in "retirement?"  Ha..
The only "retirement" I'm going to see is 
under six feet of dirt.  If I live, I'll be fighting 
with some of  you guys to get one of the old-man 
"thank you for coming to Wal-mart" jobs ;-).
