The Germans used superhets on the Fug7 which was installed in the BF109
The Fug10 also used superhets. This was a "modern" installation that used
many plug in componants.

The RU-     SCR-AX-183 do not use regeneration. The idea behind the RU is,
it is easy to operate by non-skilled operaters, (id pilots). Also the RU 
type TRF
receiver is very stable. If left tuned to one frequency, it will stay on 
that frequency
for a decade. The TRF with regeneration, will wonder and get off frequency.

The RAK and RAL are designed to be operated by skilled radio operators,
not pilots.
