That's one of the two possibilities.  But it's also possible that they were 
originally intended as posts to make it if not impossible at least more 
difficult to attempt to plug the dynamotor in 180 degrees around from the way 
it needs to go.  I don't know about the RL through RL-4 as I have never seen 
one, but the RL-5, -6 and -7 plus the CMX-50128 and 50128-A use similar but 
not quite mechanically interchangeable dynamotors.  They have three posts on 
the bottom of the dynamotor (not long screw heads but part of the base 
casting) and three posts in a pattern rotated 180 degrees from those on the 
dynamotor on top of the amplifier chassis.  So it is possible that originally 
there were to be three posts on the back deck of the Type K receivers, but 
they got dropped during development.  Which purpose they would have been 
originally intended to serve is anyone's guess.  Maybe both.
