I'm pretty sure that the VHF equipment was deployed for evaluation
purposes, Mike. The two receivers at
http://aafradio.org/flightdeck/arc5-4.htm are labeled for all the world
like every normal Navy ARC-5 receiver, including blue tags on the top
covers with serial numbers and yellow ink acceptance stamps on the back
with the usual date and anchor symbols. The particular transmitter on
that page is *not* similarly marked - it was one of the Morgue items -
but the existence of the receivers sorta implies transmitter
equivalents. Gordon mentioned the evaluation aspect in one of his
articles, IIRC.

So, it's okay to be interested in them. :-D

73,
Mike
