OK:
1. Black wrinkle paint. Large nomen tag of brass,
chromed with black paint, attached with four rivets at
the front of the top of both receiver and transmitter.
All 1941 orders and 293-PHIL-42.
2. Brass is in short supply. Tag reduced to small size
brass and mounted on the side with two phillips
sheet metal screws or little hex-head bolts.
Exception is the very first run of BC-696,
which has the small tag screwed on top of the
case in place of the old, large tag. Later painted
runs have the tag on the side.
3. Big production push. Painted dropped to save
materials and time. Tags are still brass.
4. Brass in even shorter supply. Phenolic tags
appear, but not for long, because phenolic is
needed almost as much as brass.
5. Decals start to appear as early as 1943 orders
and continue through 1945 orders.
All that having been said, the small tags continue
to show up, especially on accessories, in some
'43 and '44 builds, but not in '45.
By that time it's pretty much all decals,
with a few phenolic exceptions.
