Mike,
I realized the tongue-and-cheek remark but you brought back memories of my early parts scrounging days. FET's were relatively new on the hobbiest market and I was lucky to find them surplus.
Anyway , I found my old catalogues. Barry's "Green Sheet" has 1625 at $3 each and 1626 for $1.40. G&G does not have the 1626 but has the more common 1625 at 50 cents each. He also has 6V6G's for 75 cents each.
The only commercial JFET I know of in the $15 range are Crystolonics JFETS used in Active anbd Broadband amps. JFETS are mostly small signal devices these days and are inexpensive. The power MOSFET's are the expensive one these days. Which JFET did you buy?

Mike,
My comments were of course mostly tongue-in-cheek. The thread had run on long enough that the original disclaimer about having done it to a or some butchered unrestorable chassis, etc. etc. A newbie to the list coming in on the tail-end of the thread might think this was what the list was about and either be horrified and leave or start cutting up good radios. :-)
But to answer your question, it depends upon how you define cheap. AES currently gets $9.45. I have a bunch of them, from a lot of about 20000 tubes I bought 15 years ago after Max died, Madison Electronics (local Emporium fro the 40's to the 80's or early 90's) closed and Don (his son) was liquidating the remaining stock. My price is $5.00, but I'm not deliberately in the tube business. Mostly I sell a few to people whose radio(s) I've worked on or who have bought parts or hardware. As I discovered after buying that lot, peddling tubes is a lot of work for little return.
However, since I opened my mouth and do have quite a few (and so does someone else on this list but I've forgotten who it was), if anyone actually needs a or some 1626's I will sell them. Shipping plus $5 for one, $4 each for three, and I guess $3 each for ten.
FWIW, the last JFET's I actually bought were around $15 each.
