Ken zero-bias had been around. Real fine grid-pitch high-mu triodes
like 811 were examples. But the 805/838 went from fine (hi mu) to
course (low mu) as you ran up the grid

Well not so much as the 211/VT4C. ESRC has 838s for $60. 838s were
outputs on the Stromberg CM-1 shipboard battle PA systems

is a hi-mu version of the med. mu 211. Think it was a Taylor concoction
