The other problem with written communication - unlike verbal communication,
is there are no audible or visual cues as to the tone of the writing.

Someone having an off day or time can interpret someone else's written
message as being facetious, sarcastic, or as an outright attack when that
was not the tone in which it was written.

Subject: [Milsurplus] Ear'-tubbull

In the last year or so,
I've noticed that people on this and other lists
are getting.... testy. They take offense easily,
start fights over trivialities,
and generally treat each other roughly.
*And I do not exclude myself;*
I'm just another ordinary sinner,
recently making a catty crack about a price,
when the person certainly didn't deserve it....
my daddy tought me better than that.
I've always been one to chew on my shoes,
but I'm getting even "crankier" in my old age.

What's going on? Is it the rapid decay of our civilization?
God knows, in a world where 6-year-olds
talk filthy to each other with no more thought then we
use to say "good morning," things are going down fast.
Is it the collapse of the buying power of an hour's work?
Or are we just getting older?
Maybe we need to take Jefferson's advice:
"If you are angry, count to ten before you speak.
If very angry, count to one hundred..."

Yes, I know; I don't do it either....
