...is also my eldest. I just received a LM-2,s/n 521, contract NO.52637 Dated Jan. 26, 1937.The date I got from the included manual which is stamped NA-O8_5G-73. The contract date on the unit itself is obliterated as was the practice early in WWII.It has the original Cal book.It also has an interesting feature that newer LM's did not have:Parallax Adjuster. Something else to play with!
It came with a power unit for LM-11 and it is contract 87546 Jan. 21, 1941,( The 8 is hard to read), s/n 696.It has a meter instead of the lamp used on later units. The LM was built by Radio Research Company,Inc. Washington,D.C. and the power unit was built by Bendix Radio Div. of Bendix Aviation,Baltimore Maryland..
What is needed: AC power cable, interconnect power cable and one old style "chicken head" knob. The old style knob is like a "bar" knob on the back end, not the tapered style used on later LM's.Also need the mounting bases for the power unit and for the LM. These are the same as later ones.
I've opened both units and they are very clean and complete with all tubes in place. At first I thought the crystal was missing, only to find it stuck to the case by what was once the rubber cushioning pad.
And of course I took a deep nasal inhalation of that radio perfume that emanates from old electronic gear!
Will power up soon, when I have more time.
