BINGO!  They show just what I remember under "Ceramic Insulators":

"Should your needs require insulating a curved wire or electrode, we  
offer ball and socket fish spine beads in both high alumina and  
steatite"

They have an inquiry email address, no minimum order value..  Maybe  
they could be talked into making a "contribution" to the museum as a  
sample for evaluation.
