I confess;  Don't shoot me, Reily! :)
Actually, I did it only for my first 2 QSOs.  
Then one of my "Elmers," gone home now,
who wasn't fooled by my pitiful, chirpy attempt at a power supply,
suggested- kindly strongly suggested-
a Globe Scout 680A.  I had enough "lawn mowing"
money to buy the transmitter and a crystal for 7167 KC
(yes, young ones; that was in the "novice band" 
 in those prehistoric days).  I've done many things 
on ham radio since, but I've never had as much fun
as I did with that BC-459 and that Globe Scout.
