I apologize for the delayed response. Clisby's going out of business
and I've been doing some hurried budget reorganization so I can get
one of their lathes before they're gone forever.

If you mean the 618T-2, -3 and military derivatives, I would. Well,
the 618T-3 since it's DC powered. (3 phase 400 cycle is a bit hard to
come by these days.) It also happens to be the most expensive of the
lot but would do nicely in an emergency communications truck/van kind
of like the one I've sketched out a few times. 2-30 MCs, USB, LSB,
CW, AM-compatable ... 400w PEP SSB (which would include RTTY) ...
channelized with Collins precision ... yeah, I could deal with that.
Set up somewhere comfy where I can point a dipole appropriately and
the mainland ain't so far after all.

He is and He has. :-)

Because they have what people want at prices they're willing to pay.
Like you, I believe some prices are a bit steep but you and I are only
two out of a fairly wide customer base, not all of whom are hams. I
know some commercial interests are represented as are others. Some
have more money than common sense ... but then that's been said of me
as well. :-)
Best regards,
