You know, I never said I didn't like Fair Radio;
I do, and quite a lot. I just don't understand how
people stay in business without applying the
basic principle of the time-value of money.

For instance- Those sealed 100 watt Collins HF rigs,
listed for $325; I can't beleve they sell more
than a couple a year, if that. Who's buying them?
The dollars invested in that pile of near-unsaleable
inventory sits there, losing value (very quickly these days),
and actually costing more money for storage, taxes,
inventory accounting, listing fees etc.
The price he paid for them is utterly irrelevant;
yesterday's news. He can't sell them yesterday.
What matters is the cash they will bring now,
in the current market.
Better to "fire sale" price such things,
recover what money you can
and put it back to work compounding itself.
And then there's the items like the Rycom selective
level meter, listed for $695. Folks, you can
occasionally find such things at hamfest for a pittance,
because analog microwave systems
are being replaced by digital ones all over the world.
I bought two similar units in good shape
last year for $10 each.
I don't know; perhaps they're waiting for some
outfit in Outer Mongolia that's still using
Faranon 2-gig stuff to see the ad, but no
western microwave outfit with a lick of sense
is going buy this thing.

The fact that I don't "get" how they can stay in business
with pricing that keeps inventory on the shelf,
piling up overhead and time-value loses,
doesn't mean I don't like them;  I do.
And I've never met Phil, but I take your word
that he's a really good guy and God bless him.
I hope they stay in business forever.
I just don't understand how they do it.
