Are you a member of VMARS? VMARS (Vintage military Amateur Society)  
which is a UK organization, has a great magazine (Signals) and  
newsletters with various surplus restoration articles. They also have  
a mailing list for members.
I'm one of the very few US members in VMARS. It's a great resource.
