You might have been able to use an ARC-5/SCR-274 Tx in CW mode after a crash
if it were still operational. But in the case of the Navy, after a ditching
the pilot did not stay in the aircraft very long. I went through that
training exercise also!
Usually after an AF aircraft augured in nothing worked anymore.
I did not work on the HF ARC-5/SCR-274 equipment but the NCOs I worked for
in the early 50's did. That was how I learned about them. That was also when
I learned to make a Q5er out of a BC-453.
We could have all the ARC-5/SCR-274 HF equipment we could carry away from
the USAF MARS shack!
