I have four daughters (which is where my hair went).
So I'm an advocate for girls acheiving
whatever honorable life they envision.
One of my passions in our hobby is collecting the radios
used by the Women's Army Service Pilots (WASP) during WWII.
>From 1942 to 1944, more than 1,000 women ferried aircraft,
were test pilots, flight instructors, towed targets for
anti-aircraft artillery practice and took on
other hazardous duties designed to "free a man to fight."
The WASP faced harsh bigotry and baseless sexual innuendo
during their service (and neglect of their contribution afterwords).
In 1944, the back-biters and bigots managed to collect
enough political ooze to get the program cancelled,
but not before 38 women died in service to their nation.

"Radio Diaries" of NPR has done a good piece on the WASP.
I'm happy to see them finally getting some overdue recognition.
You can download the free 22 minute MP3 at:

http://www.radiodiaries.org/wasps.html

right-click on the "MP3" button and save-as,
or click one of the streaming buttons.
I think you'll enjoy it.
Who knows: I might start getting some competition
over these little ferrying radios ;-).
