There is also an R-3/ARR-2X which is the same as R-4/ARR-2 except 14 volt.
And a single receiver rack was built for it. The dynamotor used on the R-3 and
the R-148 is DY-1/ARR-2X. I've had a couple of the dynamotors through here.
As far as the navigation sets are concerned, the earliest MN-26 manual I have
is dated 1941. And it covers the A, C, M and Y. So it seems reasonable to
assume that the MN-26A is even earlier. Plus the MN-26 was also used in
civilian aircraft, which was a different market and would have tended to have more
older aircraft still in service during the War years. I would assume that the
AN/APN-1X was built to install in older 14 volt aircraft that didn't
originally have any radio altimeter at all.
