Oshkosh 2007 Crash.
Why I am dead-set against risky business with warbirds:

Let's get the emotional stuff out of the way for a moment, OK?
I'm sorry the man died. I'm sorry his family has to suffer.
But the fact is, people are born and they die, one way or the other.
He took something from the rest of us on his way out.
None of us really "owns" anything.
We die and leave it for the future intact,
or we tear it up to serve ourselves.
Had that pilot been run over by a bus,
we'd still be sorry for him and his family.
But that irreplaceable B-Model P-51 would still be here.
Doing stunts like dual-landings and the low-level loop that drilled
the P-48 in the ground last year, to please the crowd or show
off flying skills, is irresponsible. This sort of crap keeps happening.
A few years back, we lost *two* Corsairs and one pilot because
of a dual-take-off stunt. This needs to stop.
And don't give me that "it's his; he can do what he wants" bulls***.
If I bought the Mona Lisa, it's "mine;"
does that make it morally right for me to wipe my butt with it??
If a pilot wants to kill himself showing people how "hot" he is, fine.
Do it in a Cessna.
There's no need to take the heritage of Mankind with him.
Want to fly your warbird? Great. Wonderful.
But be responsible, for God's sake.
D.S.
