Hi John,
Dave's photos are of GF-* tunining units which are shorter than the
RU-* tuhing units.I believe the mounting holes in the cases are "made
to order" as my NOS boxes have no holes.
Are you are familiar with "Squadron Signal Publications"? These are
quality soft cover books found in Hobby Shops and through mail/web
order outlets. They do a pretty good job of including photos of aircraft
interiors including radio gear. The "F4F Walk Around" has very good
pictures of the RU/GF installed in a single place fighter.Other books
regarding aircraft with a Gunner/Observer/Radio Operator show even more
interesting setups.
Regards,
Jay

Very interesting. Thank you.
The coil units I have look much longer than would fit in the boxes in
your pics. Is that an artifact of the camera angle?
The coil holders I have also apparently mount differently. There are
three holes in a straight line across the middle of the back. They look
to be roughly for #6-32. I don't know if there are other holes on the
sides as yours do.
Also, on the front flange there are posts for the forked clips that hold
the coils into the receiver. Next time I get access, I'll try and grab
a pic or two.
Thanks for your effort,
-John
