Hi Dave: Been there, suffered roughly the same HV as you. I dont feel old
(until I try to move my AR-88).

I was once a supervisor of a person with "coke bottle" glasses. Without the
bad details, suffice it to say that he is lucky to be around today
(thank goodness).

Thereafter (of course) all of our transmitters were fitted with detachable
plexiglas plate shields to prevent at least accidental contact during testing.

Seems to me that something like this could be done with plastic standoffs that
rest on top of the ARC-5 chassis and could be held in place with
something like
"big rubber bands".

Lowering the HV is still a good idea and I dont mind running "QRP" with my
ARC-5's. I have had good success useing a 6AS7 (6080) in series with the
HV as a control or modulator. I dont know how low the HV could go to give you
the milliwatt drive but I doubt that it would work at 24V. Worth a try
though (?) and no sand state to be seen (maybe you could disguise the amp
by putting some dud 807 or 1625's in front? My sand state mic amp has tubes
in front of a mirror (cheesy?)

Take care and I wear tri-focals OM.

73, Charlie, K0NG
