Hello,

I have been talking to the folks at Colling’s foundation who are restoring a
North American A-36 Apache. The Colling’s Foundation is the group that flies
the restored B-17G, B-24Jand B-25J around the country for display and rides.

This A-36 is the attack version of the early P-51 series aircraft. It is a
rare bird indeed and is in need of our help. They want to make her as
authentic as possible and they asked me about the radios. I told them about
this list and the kind of help that you all might be able to provide.

This is a stretch but does anyone have a complete set or component that they
might want to see installed in a flying Warbird?  They have a receiver and a
transmitter but not much else.

I am still trying to get the exact date of manufacture from them but I am
guessing about mid to late 1942. I expect that they will need a full early
set (NY41)which would be nice but a bit unrealistic. They are doing the
restoration to represent a specific time in combat during 1944 so it is
perfectly acceptable that she would have had a mix of black wrinkle and bare
metal radios. I would sure like to see early shock mounts and racks though.
I am sure that later gear painted wrinkle will work until a correct contract
component can be located. I have also asked them what theater they are
restoring the A-36 to as this will dictate the specific radios as well.

They want to buy the gear but I thought that since this is such a worthy
restoration that some of you all might want to donate some gear. Since their
group is a nonprofit organization it could also be a tax write off but I am
not sure. The radios do not need to work but if a working set can be
acquired they will most certainly make it and keep it operational in the
aircraft.

To start I think a complete list is needed for all of the components
required. We can use this as a check list as items are acquired.

Here are a couple of links to the project:

This one is the official Colling’s site but is not that detailed:

This one is at the restoration shop in Florida. It has a lot of detail shots
of the specific restoration:

Any thoughts on how we can help these folks would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Taigh
