Dave has it exactly correct.
Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the original Navy spec document. 
There is (was?) a copy of the Type K test, fairly extensive, in the Navy 
Research Lab library in Anacostia, D.C, but that was 35 + years ago. And 
thern the Navy treated NRL as a top secret facility. I do not know 
whether  since 9-11 anyone could get in there. I  suppose a query there 
would be the place to start. A spec might be at what was BuAer BuDocks, 
BuSupply, etc.  I mined those sources  pretty thoroughly way back when. 
There was one at BuAer that I looked at and wanted to re-visit a couple 
of months later and found that in the interim it had been shredded. 
Another thought: Maybe by now anything left is in National Archives.
