At deeper levels than most people will ever know, or care to know.
The U.S. Navy and the Royal Navy have worked together closely
on some "interesting" projects going back long before WWII.

Found the references- The Navy transmitters that tuned 
the range were the General Electric-made GO-4, -5 and -6,
which topped out at 26.5 MC.  They were procured 1939,
just like the RATs.  All following GO-* transmitters 
stopped at 18.1 MC.

The only other aircraft radio of the period to cover that
range I've found, experimental sets notwithstanding,
was the GS / RAY, produced by Doolittle Radio but
noted as "cancelled" in 1945 documentation.
It covered 20-30 MC and does not appear 
to have been widely used, if at all.
