Enough of my documents have come out of packing to get a start on this.
Good documentation of the period from 1920-1935 is hard to get,
and a lot is based on thin evidence. Military money was very tight
during this time, especially for the Army. Politicians and beaurocrats
are forever allocating money to fight the last war, and the Navy got the
"lion's share" so they could outfit battleship squadrons to be
sunk by aircraft carrier forces.
There were a lot of small runs and experimental sets during this time,
and those that became "standard" would be made in the hundreds
if a contractor was lucky. Few have survived, and some sets
are, AFAIK, extinct.
My grasp on sets during this period is tenuous.
Will Donzelli has some good documentation that,
I'm confident, will shed some light on this period,
when he has the opportunity to work with it.
Nevertheless, I'll share what I do know about the GF/RU
and later A.R.C. sets. I would be grateful if Gordon and others
would point-out my inevitable errors.
Early A.R.C. "B" and "D" sets.
