The oxide is just the trouble you can see.
Try tuning the coil without the clean-up (which includes
the roller, its bar and leaf springs) and you will have
a bad time with intermittent connection. Also,
when these components are dirty, they contribute
to chirp; I think the crud heats at key-down and this slightly
changes the loading, pulling the MO.
Sounds weird, but repeated tests prove it to me.
I polish the roller coil, roller, bar, springs, roller coil contact springs,
antenna relay contacts and antenna posts with cream silver polish
and put contact cleaner on the link contacts on the sides of the tank coil.
