Hello Clare,

I think that is a great idea. I will try that. 

I have thought of making a shipping box for the Norden made with that
expanding foam material for the same purpose.

I bid on the SCR-522 but only a relatively small amount.  I'm glad
it's going to a good home.  Regarding shipping, I won a complete '522
about a year ago and although it was not as pristine as yours I too
was very concerned about its surviving shipping.  I made arrangements
with the seller and I made up my own box, double fluted board with a
very thick foam lining and an SCR-522 sized empty box in the center to
keep things in the right places and sent it to the seller with
instructions on how to remove my place holder box and insert the
radio.  It cost me an extra $20 or $25 all told for the shipping but
the '522 arrived in perfect shape.

I highly recommend that method for fragile items if you have the boxes
and packing materials at hand or can get them.
