Subject: [ARC5] Answering Floyd's Question
In answer to Floyd's question on bench testing
command receivers, here is what I would suggest.
First, since Floyd was talking about control and audio,
I assume he already has power into the receiver.
I would use a stock FT-230, and leave the pot, switch
and audio connections external to the receiver, using
the 7 pin rear panel connector.
But that means finding the male plug for that connector.
The 7 pin plugs from the racks sometimes show up, but here
is an alternative.
If you have a beat up, unrestorable, unrepairable set, pry
an IF can plug out of the receiver chassis. It will fit the
rear panel connector. The only problem is that pin #7, or
center pin is missing. This pin is B+. If B+ is brought
into the dynamotor plug, or you are running the receiver off
the dynamotor, then this is no problem. You now
have all the handles for gain, CM/MCW, and audio.
It might be possible to add a center pin, by cannabalizing
another plug, then you could bring power and control on
one plug.
Actually, if B+ and filament are brought into the dynamotor
connector, then you wouldn't need anything
plugged into the front of the receiver.
