Jack,

The GP-6 & 7 manual gives the serial number at which the suffix A was added 
to the tuning units in the 47150-47155 Navy Type Number range.  But of course 
it doesn't shed any light as to at what model and serial number the previous 
change occurred.  But at least tuning units marked GP-6 will plug into a 
transmitter marked GP-7.  The general rule is that a suffix A (or B, etc.) part 
number should be backwards compatible and an earlier (or no) suffix should usually 
be forward compatible.
