[ARC5] ARA/ATA series receiver finishes: black crinkle vs. plain

A correspondent of mine has shown me a picture of a CBY-46145 (500-1500 Khz.) receiver he just acquired. It is plain aluminum finish. Gee, all of the ARA/ATA CBYs I've ever seen and owned were all black crinkle. Is this unusual? Did they go to plain finish in the last production run(s)? Or were they made as replacements/spares later in the war? Bill KA3AIS
