Hi, folks,
Item 1.) Through the good offices of Larry, W0OGH, I now have a rather cool
new toy. A.R.C. made a communications unit consisting of a 24v R-19 and one of
the 24v transmitters mounted in a common chassis with a tuning dial on the
panel as well as a speaker, jacks for phones and a microphone, and all the
sundry other fiddly bits needed to make it work. In essence, it's A.R.C.'s
version of an aricraft band (with 2m included) Gonset Communicator III ...
though it's sized more like a Comm IV.
Now comes the fun part. I have the chassis but not the case it was
used/transported in, the antenna (a vertical dipole designed to be attached to
whatever's handy), phones, cables, mic (An A.R.C. labeled RS-38, I think), etc.
I'd love to complete this set, if for no othre reason than to have it
complete. The collectors here I'm sure can appreciate that feeling. Any
assistance would be gratefully accepted.
Item 2.) Larry also sent me some manuals on the Type 12 in which I discovered
that the tables I have (and which are in the hands of a few of you) may be in
error on something. On the Type 12 C-40 control box I note that one output is
for an FM set and assumed it to be the ARC-44. The manuals only reference the
SCR-619 so at this point that's the only one I'm assured was used in
conjunction with that box.
Item 3.) One manual also made reference to an adapter that increased the
transmitter channel count from five to ten making them functional equivelents
of the Type 12 T-21 and T-23. There are a few other things listed that
indicate I've got a lot of updating to do with the lists - at least the
civilian equipment portion thereof.
And, with everything else going on, I'm starting up a side enterprise to help
my daughter with her medical expenses. That would be wooden pens, pencils, etc
mostly made from either native Hawaiian wood or Holy Land wood (predominantly
olive) with some others included since I seem to have accumulated a fair
collection of exotics and less exotics plus some fun things to laminate.
So, let's see ... book, Jeep-mounted rig, antenna adapters for military pack
sets, lathe adapters and now the pens. (And, for me, a couple display setups.)
Darn, there's still time in there for eating and sleeping. <G>
BTW ... Gordon, please let me know when you're ready for the lists.
Hmmm ... I still need to sort out the SCR-183/283 bits and pieces as well as
those for the RU/GF sets ... Type B and Type D derived. Wheee!
Best regards,
Michael, K3MXO
