   Taigh  astutely  mentioned  a  product  I  should  have  emphasized  -
   Scotchbrite  (or its several competitors).  I buy it by the case.  :-)
       You  can  get it in several different grits, and it lasts somewhat
   longer  than  wet  or  dry  paper  because the gaps between the fibers
   absorb the sanding products as you go.
   Whatever  you  do, don't use steel wool...it embeds in the metal being
   abraded  and  will  show  small rust trails after a while.  It is also
   death  on  variable  capacitors.   If  you  have any in the house, I'd
   recommend removing it to the trash can ASAP - it seems to be attracted
   to critical components...heh, heh....
