    All,
What would be a good glue to use to afix a dial glass to the dial
cover for a BC-348-*?The original adheasive looked like silver paint

and I have no idea what it was. I suppose epoxy would work but it's
too
messy if you don't get it right the first time.

I'd stay away from epoxy. Both the glue and the bond is TOO strong and
the glass can warp or break. It's happened to me.

Crazy glue might work for a while but the dial lamp heat might make
it crumble over
  time

Crazy glue also degrades with moisture. Not a good choice, IMO. Also, it
sets too fast and does not clean up easily.

. Contact cement is one possibility but I don't know how it acts
under heat and it too is messy.

Not a bad choice. It was used on dial glasses on WW II meters sometimes.

"Ambroid" all purpose cement is what

Ditto, but if disturbed it has little long term holding power.

I'll end up trying if no one else has used something they know works
  well.
   Thanks,
              Jay KE6PPF

I'd pick Silicone Rubber (RTV). It sticks very well, cleans up with an
alcohol swab wen unset, and has just enough 'give'. Also long term very
stable.
