I agree; the workmanship isn't up to Boonton and they
wouldn't have had the Navy-marked front end assembly on hand anyway.
This looks like a W.E. engineering mock-up of some kind,
perhaps to test front-end tweaks.
The machined hardware and the ruby lacquer on the solder joints
speak against it being a ham homebrew,
although it looks like there were either some later
ham modes or lab mods, like that transformer which seems to
be hung in the circuit as an after-thought.
Interesting piece in any event.
Would be nice if there were some provenance.
